ALL'ATTENZIONE DI:

URGENT CALL TO ACTION
Milan (Italy); June 9, 2011

EveryOne Group - Facebook Group "L'Uganda è sveglia - Uganda Awakening" - Associazione Sherazade - Sindacato Europeo dei Lavoratori - Gruppo Watching The Sky - Collettivo Antidiscriminazioni

Uganda: it is time the international community took note of serious institutional abuses and took action against the dictator, Museveni, in order to protect innocent people.

FOR THE ATTENTION OF:

- The Secretary-General of the United Nation
- THE UN High Commissioner for Human Rights
- The UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Opinion and Expression
- The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights
- The European Commission
- The members of European Parliament
- The President of African Union

URGENT CALL TO ACTION

The recent peaceful demonstrations that took place in Uganda, from Entebbe to Kampala and Jinja, have resulted in the umpteenth violent repression by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Unjustified arrests were carried out, such as those of journalists Michael Kakumirizi (Red Pepper) and Timothy Kalyegira (Daily Monitor) who had already been beaten, and who were later released on bail. Or the arrest of an opponent of the government, Dr Kizza Besigye, who was beaten and then sprayed with pepper spray, sufficient enough to temporarily blind him.

Civilian protesters were killed in the repression: men, women and children, without distinction, and simply because they were protesting against rising food prices and fuel surcharges. Museveni’s government has been carrying out these atrocities in Uganda for 25 years, without anyone intervening.

Uganda is remembered in the international news only when there is the suspicion of an Ebola outbreak, or the hideous law against homosexuals (whose approval was recently averted thanks to international action), but we forget the cases of torture, extrajudicial killings, unjustified arrests, and reprisals in people’s home, when money and valuables are stolen.

For 25 years the dictator, President Museveni, has been carrying out his atrocities in the silence of the international community, which is well aware of the fact that they have no interests in Uganda, either strategically or economically. Musenevi's regime is guilty of harassment and torture against prisoners, even if these crimes are forbidden by the Ugandan Constitution. However, torture in Uganda is a sad reality. In addition to the excruciating torture they are subjected to, women are also raped - and no one is protesting or doing anything to prevent it.

The UK monitors the work of the Ugandan Government only where the funds earmarked for aid are concerned, money that vanishes into thin air and is not used for improving health, water supplies, homes, schools, and fighting poverty.

On May 12th, 2011, a large peaceful demonstration took place in Kamala. The military, however, made many arrests in what turned into a violent repression. But nobody is talking about it, why?

It is time the international community took note of this brutality and took action against the dictator, Museveni, in order to protect innocent people.

We are sending details, with written and photographic evidence, places and manner in which the repression took place to the international authorities mentioned above.

Thanking you for your attention, we take the opportunity to send you our best regards,

Uganda uno stato dimenticato - Uganda was a forgotten

in associazione con Khit Pyaing (The New Era Journal).
Stampato negli Stati Uniti d'America.

This is one of the many complaints made by friends thatUgandans.
These men, these women are fighting every day against thegovernment of dictator Musen, which does nothing but stop stoptorturing those who say no to higher prices of food and fuel. Stopor kill because they do not want to let the world know that inUganda there is no democracy but a dictatorship disguised by the word democracy.
Days ago was arrested Timothy Kalyegira journalist accused ofdefamation against Museveni, has now been released on bail paidby his friends and activists for freedom of the country.
These guys organize pickets, walk, and every day they show up in the square, their source of inspiration is civil disobedience, nonviolence.
Yes these guys take to the streets without weapons, their onlyweapon is his voice, the word. Days ago they wrote a petition toprevent the increases in salary of newly appointed parliamentaryby Museveni, he is already elected for the fourth time. They went tocourt to bring the petition but were not allowed to enter andjournalists are also affected physical repression, were beaten.
Beaten and prevented from wearing what is a right for ademocratic state.
In the meantime, the petition was put online.
These guys are based on a book that is downloadable online andthat has resulted in hundreds of languages and dialects.

the book is
"From Dictatorship to Democracy A Conceptual Framework forLiberation"
From dictatorship to democracy was originally published inBangkok in 1993 by the Committee for the Restoration of Democracy in Burma
in association with Khit Pyaing (The New Era Journal). Since then it has been translated into at least thirty-one other languages andhas been
published in Serbia, Indonesia and Thailand, among others.
This is the fourth edition of the United States.

Too bad that Italy is always absent, which knows nothing and does not care about anything except fuck dell'idiota silvio anddelcalcioscommesse.
That the Italian state cares if the people in Uganda, women, men, children are tortured or killed just because they exist or notbecause their screaming against a dictatorship?
That the care of Uganda to Italy, where there is nothing toguadagnaci, of course Italy comes only if you bring home a prize, but in Uganda that loot can take home?
We Italians and West should learn from them, these younggenerations who are struggling every day and fight without weapons, an important life lesson. Do not tell me there you can, because there is worse than dying on us, there are no discounts to anyone. Kill a child just because it's there.

The United Kingdom sends aid flights to Uganda, but the money ifpeople take them? it is not known, so that in the United Kingdomhave decided to investigate and suspend aid, because hospitalsare crumbling, there is not even the patches, food prices have increased by 17% and are still climbing, but the parliamentaryasking for salary increase.

So Italians are doing, read and weigh "what kind of country" andthen go to calcioscommesse, or once you join it with one thatcounts for nothing, but together you can denounce EU, UN, ourcountry, the state of grave danger that this country lives?
Will you help me or tacerete like you did with me, because it ismore convenient to change the page, rather than help.
For once, let's hear, you see that not all Italians are selfish sheep, but there are so many beautiful Italian and human solidarity.
Help me help you!

The time for forceful action against Museveni is now

By Nathan Iron Emory

30th May 2011: The militaristic situation for control of political power in the country, especially by heavily armed UPDF, Police, CMI operatives, ISO agents, and various militia groups aligned to the ruling NRM regime is very dangerous for our country. Weapons that were supplied by Western countries purportedly to help Uganda fight terrorism are now being pointed at innocent Ugandan citizens.

The security organizations I have listed above have served Museveni and his NRM regime “very well” by implementing the regime’s policies of terror, subjecting Ugandans to immense oppression, committing heinous crimes against humanity, harassment, beating, arresting, detaining, raping, looting, murder, torture, displacement of civilians from their homes, and even confiscating peoples properties with impunity.

These actions have been well documented by various independent agencies. In all however, they amount to a systematic destruction of Uganda’s economic base, creativity, social cohesion and cultural heritage among many other things. What we cannot sadly do with certainty is quantify the impact of these atrocities on the present and especially future generations.

What we can say with certainty is that by its actions, the NRM regime has violated all major international human rights treaties that the Republic of Uganda signed up to and ratified. As things stand now, it saddens me to say that I think there is no viable alternative to using force to solve Uganda’s problems unless Museveni quickly addresses these fundamental human rights issues within the context of the international human rights treaties that Uganda signed up to.

What Ugandans must also realize is that the restoration and protection of our fundamental human rights cannot and should not be left to Yoweri Museveni’s goodwill. Uganda is our country and we must force him to recognize, restore, and protect our fundamental human rights. This must be the guiding principle and indeed foundation of any viable political solution that our leaders may be contemplating.

The regime in Kampala must be brought to account and must conform to international human rights standards and laws as required by the 1948 Universal Charter of Human rights. The NRM regime must bring to an end the continuing violations of the rights of the people of Uganda and restore all the rights of those affected.

The emergence of the NRM regime in 1986 constituted a major turning point in the long heterogeneous political life of Ugandans. Museveni introduced a minority homogenous oligarchy, a fact attested to by the demographic distribution of power, jobs, wealth, and privileges in the last twenty five years of Museveni’s rule of terror.

Authors like Dr. Olive Kobusingye who wrote “The Correct Line”, Charles Ochen Okwir who wrote “Portrait of a Despot”, and several eye witnesses have brought forth substantive information and evidence of a well orchestrated NRM plan to disenfranchise and violate our fundamental human rights and means of consolidating the regime’s political dominance.

Museveni’s bullish and blatant violation of international human rights treaties also raises very serious questions about the commitment of the influential Western donor countries to the protection and promotion of human rights in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Considering the West’s loud silence and inaction over Museveni’s recent violence against Dr. Kizza Besigye, there is no doubt now that human rights have been sacrificed at the altar of economic, political and security concerns of the West. As a people, we must therefore realize this and quickly rise up to fight for our rights. No one will do it for us.

Unlike Museveni, the majority of Ugandans are moving quickly and consciously to build human a human rights consciousness and interest in keeping records of human rights violations by the regime. This process has strengthened the moral argument of human rights advocates who have thus resolved to hold Museveni and his brutal security organizations to account for the gross human rights abuses they have been accused of.

The worldwide prominence given to human rights today is one of the most remarkable developments of the Post-World War II era. As a country, we must have a piece of that wonderful cake. To do that, we must make the restoration, promotion and protection of fundamental human rights the foundation of any democratic settlement that will emerge from our struggle against Museveni’s tyranny.

It is a well known fact that Museveni’s NRA committed serious war crimes during the 1981-86 war that brought Museveni to power. Some of those atrocities were documented but no action has ever been taken against the perpetrators of those crimes because of the obvious lack of political will to do so by Museveni himself.

This time however, modern technology has deprived the tyrant the opportunity to conceal the evidence that will be used to hang him. But before we get to that, I repeat, we must rise up now and use all means to challenge Museveni’s lawlessness. It is our patriotic duty to do so. The time for talking has elapsed. Now we need action!
